Reconstructive Surgery

Reconstructive Surgery

Breast reconstructive surgery is performed after or during a mastectomy to give the breast a natural look and feel.

When reconstructing the breast, your plastic surgeon may use your own tissue (autologous reconstruction) or may use implants (prosthetic reconstruction) to recreate your breast. The surgeon will recommend which is the best method for reconstruction after meeting you. It may vary based on your age, personal preferences, cancer severity, and overall health.

You may also be interested in nipple reconstruction. This should be discussed with your plastic surgeon.

Your Breast Health Center doctor or surgeon can help you choose a plastic and reconstructive surgeon to meet your needs.
