Memorial Hospital Phone Numbers being Used for Spoofing Scam

It has come to our attention an outside company or companies is illegally “spoofing” Memorial Hospital department telephone numbers in order to get people to answer their call.

When the phone is answered, the company then tries to sell a vacation to the individual.  As a result, we have had calls from several upset community members.

Caller ID spoofing is the practice of causing the telephone network to indicate to the receiver of a call that the originator of the call is a station other than the true originating station.

We want you to be aware of this scam and assure you Memorial’s telecommunications department is working proactively to address this issue and has filed a complaint with the FCC.

Under the Truth in Calling Act, FCC rules prohibit any person or entity from transmitting misleading or inaccurate Caller ID information with the intent to defraud, cause harm, or wrongly obtain anything of value.
